It’s about people, food, and community! We are a café of shared responsibility.
We know you can’t always visit us for lunch as often as you would like, but you can support the mission of The FoCo Cafe; to provide a hand-up, not a handout, to those in need in our community.
More information on how FoCo Cafe address Community Need:

With the lasting effects of COVID-19, and the rising cost of food, more folks than ever are seeing an increased need in access to healthy food that is affordable to them.

Too often, people see those without a home as being the ones who are the most affected by hunger, however, food insecurity affects more of our community than you might think, with 33% of those experiencing food insecurity in Larimer County being school aged children, and 49% being working families.

FoCo Cafe, at its core, serves to fill the gaps for folks who may not have access to affordable, healthy food. Through this, we see many community members who are experiencing homelessness and food insecurity, but beyond that we also see many people who are experiencing other hardships, and they feel that FoCo Cafe helps to fills a unique gap for them. Some are isolated seniors without a support system or meaningful ways to use their time, or they are looking to gain employable skills and can’t find a job or opportunities to gain them. We see college students who have a

challenging family life finding refuge at the Cafe while giving back to others and building up a healthier social support system.

Through our lunch service, we are able to gather some data from our participants to gauge whether we are completing our mission, serving a diverse population, and creating a safe and inclusive community center space where all feel welcome. In 2022, on average 2/3rds of the meals we served were to those who otherwise could not afford them, showing that there is a significant need for this resource in the community, particularly for those who may be on the cusp of qualifying for federal aid and other social services but don’t quite make the cutoff and still cannot afford a full priced meal.

Beyond the numbers, we also find immense value in the stories that folks share with us about how the Cafe has impacted them. We find that personal stories can offer so much more than numbers and statistics. The below are good examples of one of our values, “everyone needs a hand up at some point in their lives.”

“When I began volunteering at FoCo Cafe, I was in a very lonely point in life. It has allowed me to make great connections with people, while continuing to give back to the community. Without people like those at the FoCo Cafe, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”- Anonymous
“I have a son with health problems, and we work less to be able to go to therapists and Surgeons and maintain insurance. Often we stress to pay bills and eat well. I have come here often over the 8 years of operation and I always feel so peaceful and welcome here. Thank you!” – Anonymous
