The Free Outdoor Library

The Free Outdoor Library was started as an extension of the Free Little Library organization, which aims to increase access to books and build community relationships. Colorado State's Engineers Without Borders helped construct and install the library at FoCo Cafe. The purpose of the library is to foster community and provide ongoing learning through literature, especially for those with limited access to books. Access to books has been linked to academic and professional success. To support the library, use it by taking and returning books, and share books for others to enjoy. Spread the word about the library and explore other outdoor libraries in Fort Collins. Learn more about Free Little Library and find other libraries.

The Giving Tree

The Giving Tree at FoCo Cafe was inspired by the 'Wall of Kindness' movement in Iran. It was brought to life with the help of two local farmers and the support of the Cafe. The Tree serves as a symbol of community and brings people together regardless of their background or status. It was built using recycled materials, adhering to the principles of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. The Giving Tree has been a success, with the community continuously restocking it with essential items.

To support the Giving Tree, individuals or groups can sponsor a specific item for a month. This can be done by making a donation or choosing to sponsor a particular branch. Donations can be made through PayPal or Colorado Gives, and specific instructions should be provided to ensure the donation benefits the Giving Tree. Sponsoring a branch ranges in cost depending on the item, from $15/month for shoe laces to $100/month for sunscreen, snacks, or reusable water bottles.

For more information on sponsoring or donating, individuals can contact info@fococafe.org.

The Hydration Station

The Hydration Station at FoCo Cafe was created in response to the lack of accessible drinking water in the community. After conducting research and fundraising efforts, the all-season, 24/7 water fountain was installed in July 2017. The goal of the Hydration Station is to combat water scarcity and ensure that everyone has access to clean drinking water. The installation of the Hydration Station has raised awareness about this issue and has led to the installation of more accessible hydration stations in the community.

Kindness cupboard

The Kindness Cupboard

The Kindness Cupboard at FoCo Cafe provides non-perishable food items to anyone in need 24/7. It was built and painted by local kids and installed by New Thought Northern Colorado Center for Spiritual Living. The purpose of the cupboard is to offer accessible food to the community while reducing food waste. You can support the Kindness Cupboard by donating non-perishable items or fresh produce at the cupboard, and consider utilizing the FoCo Freedge for fresh produce donations.

The Freedge (Free Fridge)

Our outside fridge & freezer (aka: the freedge) is a community resource that customers and other members of the foco community come and use every single day! We stock the freedge with food from our kitchen and from vindeket, a local food justice organization – but we depend on donations from any and all community members who may have food to contribute! This resource is upheld by the community for the community, and we appreciate all the help we can get! Unexpired, healthy & ready to eat foods are of highest priority!
